OCCE Launch Yuletide Campaigns, #LetOurLagosBreathe.
Lagos, January 7th, 2024.
The Office of Climate Change and Circular Economy (OCCE) has unveiled its impactful Yuletide campaign, #LetOurLagosBreathe, aimed at promoting sustainable waste management and environmental responsibility during the festive season.
The campaign is a response to the increase in waste pollution that typically accompanies the celebrations of Detty December. It seeks to inspire Lagosians to celebrate responsibly by turning waste into opportunities for value creation, while keeping the city clean and healthy.
In the campaign’s promotional video, the Special Adviser, Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, appeals to Lagosians to balance enjoyment with environmental responsibility. She emphasizes how proper waste management such as recycling plastics, restyling old outfits, and adopting clean energy can create a healthier Lagos and contribute to economic empowerment.
“Detty December is here, a time for celebration, enjoyment, and good vibes! But wait… let’s not forget something important. Littering our Lagos is not enjoyment. Waste harms our health, and defaces our city. But your waste can do good,” Mrs. Oshodi said in the video, which creatively blends vibrant holiday scenes with the stark realities of waste pollution.
The #LetOurLagosBreathe campaign showcases the transformative potential of proper waste disposal, including recycling, waste valorization, and circular economy practices. From turning plastics into cash to transforming old clothes into trendy fashion, the campaign demonstrates how Lagosians can enjoy the festive season sustainably while making a positive impact on the city.
“Lagosians, let’s keep our city clean this festive season. Your actions can turn waste into value for you, for others, and for Lagos. Together, we’ll make this a healthy and happy Yuletide! Visit occelagos.org to learn how to create value from your waste.”
