OCCE Reiterates its Commitment to Job Creation and Carbon Reduction Through the Circular Economy at the Circular Economy Strategy Week.

In furtherance of its commitment to the growth and development of the circular economy in Lagos, Mrs. Titi Oshodi, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, has reiterated the office’s intention to reduce carbon emissions in the state by 50% through its Mission 50:50 project while creating thousands of new jobs. 

Speaking at the Circular Economy Strategy Week in Lagos, Mrs. Oshodi emphasized the pivotal role of the circular economy in job creation and carbon reduction. “Our goal for Mission 50:50 is to reduce carbon emissions by 50% in Lagos while creating thousands of new jobs. We believe that by leveraging the circular economy, we can not only address environmental challenges but also generate employment opportunities, induce behavioural changes, and ultimately increase economic growth,” said Mrs. Titlayo Oshodi. 

The Mission 50:50 project aims to significantly contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions in Lagos. Mrs. Oshodi explained that by promoting circular economy practices and sustainable waste management, the project will play a crucial role in achieving environmental sustainability. 

“By promoting circular economy practices and sustainable waste management, we estimate that we can reduce carbon emissions in the state by 50%. The potential impact of this initiative on both carbon reduction and job creation is immense,” Mrs. Oshodi stated. 

Central to OCCE’s mission is leveraging innovative solutions and cultivating strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders, business associations, circular enterprises, and foreign investors. Mrs. Oshodi emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving the objectives of the circular economy in Lagos. 

“We are planning community-based advocacy and volunteering through community climate champions. Additionally, we are designing an iconic stakeholder-driven climate ecosystem for value exchange among various institutions,” Mrs. Oshodi announced. 

“Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards a circular Lagos. By forging strategic partnerships and leveraging innovative solutions, we are laying the foundation for a future for Lagos State where sustainability and economic prosperity go hand in hand,” Mrs. Oshodi emphasized. 

The Office of the Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy (OCCE) is not only setting targets but also catalyzing a movement towards a zero-carbon Lagos by 2050, aligning with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s goal for Lagos State.
