SA, OCCE Celebrates EcoSchoolsNG Graduates for Green Innovation and Waste Valorization.
Lagos, April 1st, 2025.
The Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, has commended the graduates of the EcoSchoolsNG programme for their creativity, resilience, and dedication to environmental sustainability. She made this statement while delivering the keynote speech at the EcoSchoolsNG Graduation, Green Skill Pitch, Waste Valorization, and Awards event organized by FABE International Foundation in Lagos.
The event, which brought together students, teachers, parents, environmental advocates, and stakeholders, marked the culmination of the EcoSchoolsNG programme’s efforts to equip young Nigerians with practical green skills. Since its inception in 2016, EcoSchoolsNG, an initiative of FABE International Foundation has trained and empowered over 30,000 students, youths, and women on sustainable practices, including waste valorization, upcycling, composting, and environmental innovation.
In her address, Mrs. Oshodi described the EcoSchoolsNG graduates as “young eco-champions” who have transitioned from students into problem-solvers, innovators, and environmental leaders. She noted that the skills they have acquired would position them not just as future leaders, but as active contributors to building a greener, more sustainable Lagos and Nigeria.
“Today, we are not just celebrating certificates; we are celebrating bold ideas, green skills, and the spirit of innovation,” she said. “You are the superheroes our planet needs, saving the environment one recycled bottle, one compost heap, and one eco-garden at a time.”
Highlighting the importance of circular economy principles, Mrs. Oshodi emphasized that waste should not be seen as useless, but rather as an opportunity to create value, drive economic growth, and protect the environment. She praised projects by students who had successfully turned waste materials into useful products and pitched innovative green business ideas, describing their efforts as inspiring examples of waste valorization and entrepreneurship.
The ceremony featured a variety of activities, including the Green Skill Pitch where students presented their sustainable ideas, exhibitions showcasing upcycled products and eco-projects, and an awards segment recognizing outstanding students and schools for their commitment to environmental action.
Speaking further, the Special Adviser urged the graduates to continue building on the skills they have developed through the EcoSchoolsNG programme. She reminded them that their journey was just beginning and encouraged them to keep innovating, creating, and inspiring positive change wherever they go.
“No idea is too small, and no action is too insignificant,” She concluded. “Every plant you grow, every item you upcycle, and every waste you repurpose brings us closer to a more sustainable future. Go with confidence, knowing that your ideas matter and your actions can change the world.”
