Improved and Efficient Cooking Energy Solution for Nigeria
About the Project
The 80 Million Clean Cookstoves Project is a groundbreaking national initiative designed to transform the cooking experience for millions of Nigerians. Registered under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC, Global Climate Action Portal, the project aims to distribute 80 million highly efficient fuelwood stoves, free of charge, to women, low-income earners, and households across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
This initiative addresses a critical national need. Over 180 million Nigerians still rely on traditional, inefficient cooking fuels. The health risks, environmental degradation, and economic burden associated with this are immense. The project will reduce traditional firewood consumption by over 90 percent, helping Nigeria meet its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement while improving public health and economic opportunities.
