SA, OCCE, Oshodi Advocates for Scaling Environmental Literacy at Oando Foundation’s Clean Our World Panel.

Lagos, December 6th, 2024.

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos state on Climate Change and Circular Economy (OCCE), Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, has joined stakeholders at the Clean Our World IV Close-Out Ceremony organized by Oando Foundation.

According to Oshodi, this event underscored OCCE’s commitment to fostering strategic collaborations with private enterprises and non-profits championing environmental literacy, advocacy, and sustainable development initiatives.

The Clean Our World initiative, spearheaded by Oando Foundation, showcases the potential of targeted educational programs to transform environmental consciousness. With its focus on integrating sustainability into schools and communities, the event brought together policy experts, education leaders, students, and environmental advocates. Activities included panel discussions, student-led presentations, and the celebration of schools excelling in sustainability practices.

Mrs. Oshodi’s participation highlighted OCCE’s role as a forward-thinking government body ready to support and amplify the efforts of organizations like Oando Foundation. Speaking on the topic of “Scaling Environmental Literacy,” she emphasized the critical need for education to drive behavioural change and inspire sustainable living. “Environmental literacy is not just about knowledge—it’s about empowering people to make informed choices that reduce waste, conserve resources, and advocate for green policies. This knowledge is essential if Lagos is to achieve its environmental and economic sustainability goals,” Mrs. Oshodi remarked.

She elaborated on OCCE’s ongoing initiatives aimed at deepening community engagement and fostering practical action. Programs such as Eco-Circulate, which promotes waste management and upcycling, and Let Our Lagos Breathe, a campaign to encourage responsible waste disposal during festive seasons, exemplify the office’s commitment to grassroots empowerment. In addition, Leave No One Behind, a program equipping individuals with skills in waste valorization, reflects the agency’s dedication to creating opportunities for sustainable wealth generation.

The Clean Our World event provided a platform for OCCE to demonstrate how effective partnerships between government offices, private enterprises, and non-profits can address pressing environmental challenges. “Lagos State recognizes the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable development. Through partnerships with organizations like Oando Foundation, we can create innovative solutions and mobilize communities to take action,” said Mrs. Oshodi.

As an advocate for sustainable development, OCCE continues to align its programs with global best practices and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The agency’s focus on education, capacity building, and advocacy positions it as a strategic partner for organizations committed to driving social and environmental impact.

The Clean Our World IV event serves as a testament to the transformative power of education and collaboration in advancing sustainability. For private enterprises, international donors, and development organizations, OCCE’s engagement underscores its readiness to provide policy support and foster initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, economic growth, and community well-being. By working together, stakeholders can harness the potential of a sustainable Lagos, ensuring a cleaner, greener future for generations to come.
