LAGRA Honours Titi Oshodi at 2024 Conference

LAGOS, NIGERIA – September 13, 2024

In a powerful showcase of Lagos State’s commitment to sustainability, Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, received praises at the LAGRA 2024 Conference. Her groundbreaking work in the circular economy was honoured with a special award, highlighting her pivotal role in advancing sustainable practices and financial strategies for a greener Lagos.

The award was presented during LAGRA’s 3rd Annual Conference and Exhibition, themed “Financing Circular Economy: Bridging the Funding Gap,” which brought together leaders, innovators, and advocates in the field. As a key panellist at the event, Mrs. Oshodi elaborated on her vision: “There is a need for us to finance the circular economy. First and foremost, there are various areas within the sector of circular economy that we need to address. We need to start viewing it not only as an innovation or solution but also as a lifestyle. People need more education and awareness about the circular economy to adopt it as a way of life.”

She continued, “There are different perspectives on waste itself. In the past, there was a condescending attitude towards those involved in waste management. However, waste is now becoming a valuable resource. People are starting to generate income from responsible disposal. Therefore, there is a commercial aspect to it, and establishing the fundamental models that support commerce is the financing we are discussing.”

Dr. Femi Idowu-Adegoke, President of the Lagos State Recyclers Association (LAGRA), echoed these sentiments in his welcome address, acknowledging the significant contributions of OCCE. “The OCCE’s work in promoting circularity in Lagos is unparalleled. Through their efforts, we are witnessing real progress in waste-to-wealth initiatives, job creation, and environmental stewardship,” he stated.

Mrs. Oshodi’s recognition at LAGRA 2024 not only celebrates her individual achievements but also highlights the Office of Climate Change and Circular Economy (OCCE) as a central force in shaping Lagos’s sustainability narrative. OCCE continues to lead initiatives that integrate climate resilience and circular economy principles into Lagos State’s development strategy, paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future.
